Live talk with Maarten Baas and Hans Lensvelt as part of Virtual Design Festival

Designer Maarten Baas will speak to Dezeen in a live Screentime conversation today as part our VDF x Lensvelt collaboration. Tune in from 12:00pm UK time.

The Dutch designer will be joined by the founder of the Dutch furniture brand Lensvelt, Hans Lensvelt, and speak to Dezeen's founder and editor-in-chief Marcus Fairs about his work for the brand.

The conversation between Baas, Lensvelt and Fairs is part of a series of Screentime talks exploring the Lensvelt brand and its relationship to some of its design collaborators.

Baas first collaborated with Lensvelt in 2017 when they launched a collection of chairs at Salone del Mobile featuring irregularly shaped backrests, which will be featured in the VDF products fair today.

Based in Amsterdam, Baas became known for his graduation project Smoke, a collection of furniture that had been scorched with a blowtorch.

Baas has since gone onto design a number of products, installations and video-based projects such as the permanent timepiece installed at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport, Real Time Schiphol, which features a video of Baas painting and repainting the hands of the clocks for 12 hours straight.

The designer has also previously designed a collection of brass furniture that resemble simple sketches of furniture.

The talk is part of our wider collaboration with Lensvelt for Virtual Design Festival which includes three Screentime interviews with designers Joep van Lieshout and Fabio Novembre, both of which have designed products for the brand.

Van Lieshout has designed a variety of products for the brand including a sofa system with sliding backrests, entitled the AVL Glyder.

Also being published in the VDF products fair is a range designed for the brand by Novembre entitled New Balance, which comprises a sofa system and armchairs that are designed to look askew.

The first interview of the series featured a conversation between Lensvelt and Fairs about the history and design philosophy of the brand.

Live conversation with Lensvelt founder Hans Lensvelt kicks off Virtual Design Festival collaboration

Today, VDF teams up with Lensvelt for a series of live talks exploring the furniture brand's collaborations with designers Maarten Baas, Joep van Lieshout and Fabio Novembre. To kick off the collaboration, Lensvelt founder Hans Lensvelt introduces the brand in a live Screentime conversation from 11:00am UK time.

Lensvelt's founder will speak about the history of the Dutch furniture brand and its products with Dezeen's founder and editor-in-chief Marcus Fairs.

Founded in 1962 by his father, Lensvelt took the reins of the brand in 1985 and has since facilitated its extensive product line of home and office furnishings.

The brand frequently collaborates with a roster of Dutch designers for their products, including Marcel Wanders, Piet Hein Eek and Richard Hutton, who designed a range of stackable chairs and barstools for the brand.

Lensvelt has also previously released a collection of intentionally boring office furniture, designed in an effort to encourage a greater balance between work and play.

The talk is part of our wider collaboration with Lensvelt for Virtual Design Festival which will include three Screentime interviews with designers Maarten Baas, Joep van Lieshout and Fabio Novembre, all of which have designed products for the brand.

Baas designed a family of upholstered chairs for Lensvelt in 2019, which featured irregular shaped back rests. The chair will be included in the VDF products fair today as part of the VDF x Lensvelt collaboration

Van Lieshout has designed a variety of products for the brand, including a sofa system with sliding backrests entitled the AVL Glyder.

Also being published in the VDF products fair is a range designed for the brand by Novembre entitled New Balance, which comprises a sofa system and armchairs that are designed to look askew.
