A metropolis housing 10 billion people features in today's Dezeen Weekly newsletter

The latest edition of our Dezeen Weekly newsletter features Liam Young's suggestion that the entire population of planet Earth should live in a giant sustainable city.

A new movie by Young proposes a hyper-dense, self-sufficient metropolis housing 10 billion people as a means of freeing the rest of the world for rewilding. The architect also suggests returning stolen lands.

Built according to the principles of the circular economy, the metropolis could be built on 0.02 per cent of the planetary surface, taking up an area "roughly the size of an average US state".

Commenters are horrified by the concept, with one calling it a "dystopian nightmare".

Other stories in this week's newsletter include 12 of the most interesting architecture projects that are due for completion in 2021, a wooden cabin set on Lake Saimaa in Finland and news that UK architecture qualifications will no longer be automatically recognised in EU countries since Brexit.
