Dezeen Showroom: intended to evoke the look of handmade tiles typical of the Mediterranean, Crogiolo Rice by Marazzi has a high-gloss finish and natural variation.
Crogiolo Rice is based on traditional majolica tiles, which have a dense glaze and small surface flaws, and often feature plant patterns.
Marazzi makes the tiles in its factories using the latest stoneware processing technologies, and drawing on the brand's in-depth research into glazes and colours.
One of the benefits of this is that while Crogiolo Rice tiles have the charms of an irregular surface, their edges are straight, allowing for spaceless installation.
The tiles come in a palette of whites and off-whites along with a blue, and with the option of three motifs inspired by nature.
The modular tiles can be combined into complementary compositions and come in three sizes — 15 by 15, five by 15 and 7.5 by 20 centimetres.
The Rice tiles are the latest in Marazzi's Crogilio collection. It is named after its first factory The Crogilio (or "The Crucible"), which was transformed into the brand's experimentation division in the 1980s.
