Dezeen Showroom: Italian designer Luca Erba has created the Spinnaker table collection for Cornelio Cappellini, which references architecture from the 1930s.
Cornelio Cappellini describes the Spinnaker tables as a coming together of sculptural art and architectural research.
Available as round or lozenge-shaped dining tables of various sizes, Spinnaker has a marble top resting on a sculptural bronze and marble base made of curved, intersecting geometric forms.
According to Cornelio Cappellini, the shapes in the base recall the appearance of boat sails as well as the architecture of the 1930s.
The dramatic base is created in a foundry using the traditional sand casting technique, where liquid metal is poured into a sand mould before being finished by hand.
Spinnaker is available in either White Beauty and Arabescato Orobico, two marbles that provide a chromatic contrast to the metal. The marble top can be made as either one solid piece or as three curved adjoining parts.
